Samsung came to us with an open brief: to create a documentary in Hawaii about the ocean — all filmed entirely on their new phone.

From the very beginning, we knew this couldn’t just be a beautiful film about water. We wanted it to be about connection. About listening to those who have lived in deep relationship with the ocean for generations, and letting their wisdom guide the story.

It became a truly global collaboration — our team across Europe, creatives in the US and Australia, Samsung’s team in Korea, and most importantly, Native Hawaiian wisdom-keepers who welcomed us and shared their knowledge, stories, and respect for the sea.

Rather than focusing on technology, the film centers on humanity’s bond with nature and the importance of caring for what sustains us. Shooting the entire documentary on a smartphone added an exciting creative challenge, but the heart of the project was always the people, the culture, and the ocean itself.

 

In a time when the world can feel divided, working with such a diverse group of passionate people was a powerful reminder that what connects us is far greater than what separates us — and that protecting our planet starts with reconnecting to it.
